Pliant Technology's Vice President of Marketing to discuss SSD Market Evolution at a Flash Memory Summit
Company Taps Technology Manufacturing Operations Veteran to Drive Production Phase of New Enterprise Flash Drives
Milpitas, Calif. – July 9, 2008 – Greg Goelz Joins Executives from Samsung, SanDisk and Seagate to Discuss SSD Technology Developments, Market Drivers and New Opportunities
Milpitas, Calif, August 5, 2008 – Pliant Technology, developer of a new class of high-performance, high-reliability solid state storage devices for the enterprise, today announced that its vice president of marketing, Greg Goelz, will participate in the panel discussion about the evolution of solid state (SSD) storage market segmentation at the Flash Memory Summit on August 12, 2008.
The panel discussion will be held at 2:40 p.m. on August 12, 2008, at the Flash Memory Summit at the Santa Clara Marriot, Santa Clara, Calif. To learn more or to obtain registration information visit www.flashmemorysummit.com.
Today, high-performance enterprise IT computing systems are requiring new levels of I/O performance, but are increasingly constrained by the limits of traditional hard drive technology. As a result, many IT managers have had to increase I/O performance by over provisioning hard drives, resulting in significantly higher cost, power consumption and failure rates. In an attempt to address this issue, existing solid state storage solutions based on Flash technology have been increasingly deployed in a variety of enterprise IT environments. However, this approach is falling short of enterprise system needs, delivering only marginal performance and efficiency improvements.
During the panel session, Goelz will discuss the advantages, challenges and limitations of utilizing existing SSD technology in enterprise IT and data center environments. He will also outline new market and technological developments that are enabling solid state technology to better meet new enterprise storage performance, reliability, power, and cost requirements, including the recent emergence of Enterprise Flash Drives (EFDs), a new class of solid state storage devices designed specifically for enterprise.
“We are thrilled to have Greg participating to discuss the emergence of SSD technology in the enterprise in this timely and compelling panel discussion,” said Lance Leventhal, Flash Memory Summit program chairperson. “The technological challenges and business pressures facing today’s IT managers are many and growing, and they are increasingly impacting many aspects of the organization. It is clear that storage technology must continually evolve to meet the myriad new demands, and we look forward to hearing Greg’s insight on how SSD technology can be best utilized in this regard.”
Pliant’s Enterprise Flash Drive storage solution is based on a new and advanced controller design and software architecture, and will integrate seamlessly into existing enterprise information systems. Delivering exponential improvements over today’s highest performing hard drive and SSD storage solutions for a range of data I/O-intensive enterprise applications, Pliant’s EFD solution is expected to be available to OEM and data center customers in the fourth quarter of 2008..
